New 20-GHz Handheld Spectrum Analyzer from Agilent Technologies

Agilent Technologies, a provider of test and measurement solutions, announced the launch of N9344C and N9343C handheld spectrum analyzers (HSA), designed to make FR/microwave field testing easier for technicians and engineers.

The new analyzers provide the performance of a benchtop instrument in a handheld device, along with a range of functionality for ensuring field-ready operation and automating routine tasks.
N9344C and N9343C provide fast and accurate measurement from 1 MHz to 20 GHz and 13.6 GHz, respectively, company officials said. Both can be tuned to 9 kHz.

Agilent’s (News - Alert) new HSA technology finds applications in a variety of fields including aerospace/defense, microwave and satellite communication, wireless communication and broadcasting, spectrum regulation, and general-purpose spectrum analysis, company officials said.

“Specifically designed to make field testing easier, the new HSAs feature the rich and powerful measurement capabilities and field-ready instrument functionality today’s engineers and technicians require for faster, more precise RF field test,” said Brian LeMay, general manager of Agilent’s Chengdu Instruments Division, in a statement.

Featuring a rugged and fanless design, the analyzers are designed for operating in tough field environments. Additionally, they are provided with automatic LCD brightness and keypad backlight control for clear screen viewing day or night. A built-in GPS receiver and GPS antenna provide precise location information.
N9344C and N9343C HSAs feature dedicated applications that ensure faster, easier spectrum monitoring and interference analysis. They can be remotely controlled via a USB/LAN connection.

The technology ensures an RF performance of -155 dBm (News - Alert)/Hz DANL with minimum sweep time < 2 ms, so it ensures first-time measurement accuracy. The analyzers are provided with a set of powerful one-button measurements like ACP, OBW and channel power, as well as AM/FM modulation analysis to help characterize signal quality.

Additionally, they support Agilent USB power sensors and ensure high-accuracy power measurements. A built-in tracking generator and time-gated sweep further simplify the measurement process. A unique Task Planner capability reduces test setup time by 95 percent and allows users to boost their work efficiency by delivering test automation and consistency. With continuous execution of up to 20 different tests, Task Planner automates routine measurement tasks.
